I want to pose a question to you. Have you ever committed yourself to something so quickly that you really didn’t take the time to think about it or
what it was that you were committing to? I mean you didn’t examine the facts, never weighed the pros and cons of what you were agreeing to do and more importantly you didn’t seek God for direction in the matter. While yes it could have very well been a good thing to do however, was it a thing that God called you to do?
Sometimes we say yes based upon who the individual is that has asked us to do something. We may feel as though we owe someone something and therefore are obligated to them. Obligation should Never be a reason why you agree to something so hastily. Unless it is a bill you owe ( pay what you owe), you should always think before you speak out of your mouth and agree to do something that you might not of ordinarily have agreed to.
When we make decisions without seeking God for direction and waiting on Him for a release ,we open up a doorway and give the enemy access to us. Once the devil has his entry way, he will do everything within his power to cause havoc in our lives to get us to shift our focus. Once we have taken our eyes off of God and have given attention to the situations and problems that are presenting itself before us the enemy will then begin to attack us in our thoughts. If he can get us depressed, discouraged and bitter he then can cause us to become disconnected. If we don’t have joy, than we wont have strength to endure. Why? Because the joy of the Lord is our strength. The choices that we make have the potential to altar the direction of our lives. If we are not in alignment with the plan and purpose that God has for our lives than we are doing ourselves a disservice, because we will not receive the full benefits of the blessings that God desires to bestow upon us. There is a cliche that says ” God don’t bless no mess”. I will say that God is not in our mess. He does not like sin in any shape form or fashion.
When we hastily open up our mouths and commit to things and say things without seeking counsel and then we fail to follow through with what we have agreed to
we become unreliable. God is his Word. And if we are imitators of Christ then we too must become our word. So it behooves us to think before we speak.
The bible says in Proverbs 18:13:
KJV: He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is his folly and shame unto him.
The New Living Translation reads: Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.
Listening is key. We must listen and think about what we have heard and seek direction before giving an answer. We are each accountable for the things we do and say.
So on this week I admonish you not to speak so quickly and give some thought into what you are asked to do before you do it. Your mouth can open up gateways that you do not need or want opened in your life.
